About

WHAT IS MYCOLOGEEK? Mycologeek is a passion project, a personal education curriculum, a professional portfolio, and a home for the curious. Here, you'll find a collection of technologies(like code and gadgets), strange ideas, and articles around building an automated home garden in my basement. I have the perfect space for it and endless ideas for how to use it, I just don't have the skills... yet!< So come along as I build my skills and my garden! World domination robots-optional.

WHO IS MYCOLOGEEK FOR? Mycologeek is for hobby mycologists, home gardeners, Arduino creators, quarantine engineers, and anyone else who needs a bit of motivation to bring their idea to reality. My hope is to provide ideas, code, and some entertainment for others with similar scientific interests.

WHAT DOES MYCOLOGEEK TEACH? My hope is to provide you with the info and skills needed to build gadgets and grow mushrooms and plants to the ability that I can myself. If Artemis Lab is fully automated(which it is not even close), my hope is that by following my site, you can build similar!

My process

Step 1

The wind blows and puts a wild idea in my noodle.

Step 2

Write down the idea on a sheet of paper and stare at it really hard over a steak.

Step 3

Make electronics.

Artemis Lab

WHAT IS ARTEMIS LAB? Artemis Lab is the name of our Mycology/Botany lab where we house the gadgets that I build for Mycologeek. The lab is named after my wife's grandmother who always supported us with a "right on!" That said, our home has also been nicknamed "Artemis" after the character from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia after a sewer flood required the use of heavy bleach on our basement's floor drain. (some of you will understand)

WHY A LAB? Anyone who has dealt with contamination knows the importance of a clean technique and workspace. While in reality, our lab is a closet, by calling it a lab, it takes on a personality that eventually develops into a lab.

WHERE IS ARTEMIS LAB? Artemis Lab and Mycologeek are lovingly built in Tacoma, WA
